…shepherd’s warning??

This was the sight that greeted me on the news the morning of our departure to the Land Down Under.. eeek! I awoke to a text message from my friend all about dust – which with a fuzzy sleepy head made no sense at all. Then when I saw the news, it looked like we were heading to a post-apocalyptic Sydney!

What were we doing?!?!…………. Auntie Rosie’s famous saying of ‘There’s no shame in coming home’ ran through my head on numerous occasions!

After a few tears, then a few more aboard our flight… we left our fabulous friends and family to start our adventure in Sydney.

The journey was long, but made a bit livelier by a drunken passenger next to us who fell off his seat at one point and then had the plane laughing as he shouted that he had lost his shoes. Luckily he wasn’t on our connecting flight, so we could grab a few zzzzzzz’s.

Thankfully the dust storm had passed when we arrived and there wasn’t much sign of it apart from a few dirty cars with the obligatory scrawled messages on windows… ‘wish my wife was this dirty’ etc ;o)

The next couple of weeks have flown by and it really feels like we’ve been here for ages now. Initially we stayed with our friends, which was ideal as we’ve been meeting so many ex-pats through them – we were straight out the night that we arrived and have since been to a wine tasting afternoon overlooking the harbour and our first Ozzie barbie where Michael introduced the gang to Caipirinhas – mmmmm they were queuing up for them! And yes, it even rains over here when you mention ‘BBQ’ – that afternoon it lashed it down!

We’ve now found our own place – a furnished apartment – which are by all accounts gold dust around Sydney. Pretty much everywhere is unfurnished, which would have been a bit of a task to kit out ‘fresh off the boat’. We’re now living just a 10 minute stroll to Rose Bay beach and about 15 minutes from Bondi – nice!

We’re both keeping busy job-hunting and going to interviews and hope to have our first contracts soon. Will keep you posted!

Love

Chopsticks

… and an array of other random belongings all being packed up for a car boot sale this weekend. The minimalist look is still in … right?

So in just over 2 weeks, we’ll be setting off for Oz – on our 2nd year anniversary and with just one suitcase each (!!). Still can’t quite believe how much there is to do before we get there.

It’s a mixture of excitment and fear that seems to be keeping me awake most nights. But I figure that we’ll be able to catch up on all that sleep when we board the flights to Dubai first, quick stopover, and then onwards to Sydney!  Once we get over the lack of sleep, then it’s going to be quite hectic trying to find jobs and somewhere to live.  But we’re both up fo a challenge!

On top of this, I can’t even start to think about saying the last good bye to our fantastic family and friends. Every ‘good bye’ night out seems to turn into another arrangement for a final coffee, lunch, drinks or dinner.

Looking forward to seeing you all over the next couple of weeks, and I’ll try my best not to cry (much).
